The things that finally "broke" religion for me

I have read a few of the convert stories so I thought I would, after all add a few personal thoughts in a post. I will try to make it brief.
A number of things never added up for me and my dissatisfaction grew.

1. No Christians could ever answer my questions to my satisfaction.
2. I never understood the concept of why god demanded "sacrifice".
3. I never believed in heaven and hell - privately I always thought we all went to the same "place" .
4. It seemed to me that religious people should be the most relaxed people on the planet- instead without exception the more religious they were the more uptight, narrow minded and sometimes actually nasty they were.
5. The concept of sin and us all being born sinners . How can a new born baby be sinful? Depending on his parents he /she might not have much of a chance in life but that's another matter.
6. What is so special about god having one son? If he is all powerful why can he not have as many as he wants .
7. I never believed in a Trinity. I read around and found out that some of the early Christians and Judeao-Christians didn't either.
8. God is supposed to be outside of his creation, (ie outside time) all knowing . Past Present and Future is predestined. He should know what's going to happen .Yet reading through the OT he consistently acts as if he doesn't know what's coming next . He "tries" different solutions .

But finally what put the nail in the coffin for me was the ludicrousness of the "sacrifice" of the crucifixion. If Jesus is God (ie part of the Trinity 0 then there is actually no sacrifice at all. It is God saying hey, look at me, I died and came to life again! It is a magic show. But of course, after figuring that out the whole thing collapsed for me. I can't get now why I half-believed it for so long. But I am all better now.

you are basing all your reasoning on what Churches say and people think. You do not have to identify with anyone else's ideas to remain a theist. Please start by explaing why you think God doesn't exist as opposed to blaming his followers for their perceived shortcomings.

No he isn't at all. No.s 2, 3, 5, 6, part of 7, and 8 of Vodkafan's list are all in direct relation to what is written in the Bible, NOT what Church's say and people think.

Thanks Captain Obvious, your point is moot. Vodkafan was merely expressing his disbelief in YOUR god, not disbelief in all gods. He may not believe in any gods but that remains yet to be seen. Additionally, you may not have to identify with anyone else's ideas to believe in the Christian god, but you damn sure have to accept the key points that he already touched on in his OP. You know - those biblical points for which he already said he doesn't believe.

Seriously, did you even read the list he made in the OP?!? No.'s 1 and 4 of his list are the ONLY ones that blame your god's followers for his disbelief, the others ARE all directly related to why he thinks your god doesn't exist. I mean fuckingchrist, pay attention! He already answered your question in his first fucking post!


I mean seriously, are you mentally handicapped or do you have some kind of learning disability?

Hi theist101, you asked a reasonable question. As my little "religious view" tagline shows, I have an open mind about whether a god of any type exists or not. I suspect there may not be one. Until scientists can answer some basic questions about the origin of the universe, the actual mechanism of how life started, I will continue to have an open mind.
But as far as the Abrahamic religions go, I have decided after a long period of my own researching, bible reading, life experiences and internal thinking that they do not describe any reality, and are not even harmless. People are still being killed and persecuted because of religion even as we post.

@theist101, I just read a couple of your other posts on another person's "convert corner" thread. I think I see where you are at. By all means, you are welcome to challenge , contradict and argue with me on all points. It 's one of the reasons I came on here, it's nice to have someone of the opposite viewpoint to hash things out with. You won't upset me I am an easy going dude. Bring it on!
