Yep. Take notes.

Honestly, I just don't detect any happy atheists in this forum.

Really? Lol. I am pretty happy. Or at least I'm definitely happier than I was as a Christian. What is it about us that seems unhappy to you?

Everyone seems to have a chip on their shoulder. They lash out in the threads and call people nasty names, etc. I rarely hear anyone express any hope for the world or the future. Its like "the world stinks, people are rotten, and if there's a God he'll have to explain why everything is so screwed up."

If it makes you feel any better I like to agree with Anne Frank on that matter.

I mean, I don't believe in god and I think there's a lot of darkness in the world. I might have a chip on my shoulder, I will loan you my old Christian shoes if you want to take them for a walk and try to understand why. Regardless of everything, I still like the love everyone and don't judge people ideals. Probably I like them even more so now than before. And I really don't think people are rotten. I generally like most people. But yea, if there's a god it kind of sucks and if it's the Christian god then it really really is a shit head.

I'm as happy as I was before. But maybe a bit less cranky, since I get to sleep in on weekends.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Really?

I'm probably the happiest I've ever been in my entire life!

Promoted to mod, engaged and soon to be married (in a secular wedding) to the love of my life, decent job with decent pay, 2 great cars, great house, great friends and a loving mother and father.

And no imaginary fairy tale monster god checking to see when I'm fucking out of wedlock.

Good times!

You do have a point, but as someone who frequents several forums based on interest in religion this generally isn't unique to Athiests.

Some christian forums tend to take more of a passive aggressive stance and accuse everyone not in their little clique of being morally degenerate, persecuting them or just generally being inferior and destined for hell.

An emphasis on "the death culture" and other negative aspects of society are just as bigger deal on there, the only difference is they generally do it with less swearing and more "you must just hate god, apologise"

I am happier now than I ever was when I identified as a Christian or atheist. As a Christian, I was a smug asshat. As an atheist, I was constantly angst-ridden. As an animist, I embrace all life and all beauty - I literally see less ugly in the world from this perspective.

In general, I don't think it's accurate to state that atheists are 'angry' or that theists are 'happier' than atheists or other groups. It's probably more accurate to state that a particular worldview may bolster an already formed character trait, and that once an asshat, or angst-ridden - always as such... unless one's perspective shifts it's unlikely that a 'belief' will change one's character.
