On another forum Jon Paul frequents a friend of his posted that he'd died. It went on a few days then JP popped up again. They were making it out to be a joke that nearly everyone else didn't get.
JP is Lutiferre on theapricity forums. Here is his death: http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9631 and here is his conversion to agnosticism: http://www.theapricity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10596
Interesting. Thanks for the links. It seems that perhaps he was getting confused over his newfound skepticism, and that might have led to the "joke" (or perhaps he never intended to come back, but chickened out?).
Just throwing ideas around. He did come across as a very smart guy for his age though. Certainly not the kind of person you'd expect to do something like fake his death, even for a joke...
Not much of a joke... seems more depressing than anything else :S
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day
Sounds awesome to me but I have a very dark sense of humor.

He didn't think the same of us here. ![]() It really is a long but good read. Is there a way to verify this really is JP talking here? Sure sounds, and the writing style is, like JP. If it truely is, the man has gained much respect from me. That public announcement of a rethink of ones entire worldview is commendable and most respectable. I think those of us here that did the same thing will agree it can hurt. Make you feel most idiotic over all the wasted years you could have been actually doing something to improve your lot in life rather than praying to God-daddy to make it all right. Working to correct the hell in your life rather than "placing it in God's hands". My thoughts and heart go out to the man, if true, as again, those who did the same knows what will come next. The heavy heart. The damnation dreams. The hatred of being lied to and deceived. But if myself and others here are examples then the feeling of no more weight on the shoulders, the enlightenment to see everything for what it is should follow soon and he'll be happy he's being true to himself and not to a bunch of long dead ancient church leaders.
I used to tell a lot of religious jokes. Not any more, I'm a registered sects offender.

Spot on Dotard, way to capture the hard part of the change so succinctly. A personal one I would like to add is a new appreciation for my body. It came shortly after I realized that there is no more reason to believe in a soul than there is for god/gods. Before this realization I had always considered my body as a vehicle that carried the REAL Greg around and when I died I would be free of it and somehow everything would get much more interesting vis-à-vis, (sorry had to) "What Dreams May Come" or some other fairy tale I told myself about the astral plane, heaven, or any other myth that soothed me.
I wish he would come back here so I could tell him I told you so! j/k Rhizo RE: Member Awards 2009 - RESULTS!

I also have him on IM, and he pointed me to his activities on theapricity. Myself I know the relief of breaking ties with Christianity, and all the hurt that goes along with it. Maybe that's why I remain independent now. |
