Atheism and happiness

RE: Atheism and happiness
There was a noticeable difference in my happiness when I stopped believing in nonsense. The difference was so great, that I had not previously realized just how truly unhappy being a theist made me.

It was pretty much the same for me. It felt like getting rid of a huge burden, and I felt more free.

I think I can safely say that letting go of my religion saved my life. So yea, I'm happier.

To all those who found that it felt like a burden had been lifted once becoming an atheist.
Is it safe to assume that you were never really believers.
How many were true believers here and are now athiests?
Did you try to defend your invested beliefs tooth and nail (to yourself at least) like eg: user: Ronedee.
If you did, why did you change and good people like Eg: Ronedee cannot?
Just curious.
No God, No fear.

One has nothing to do with the other.

But religion can make you a miserable bastard.

I'm more mature than you.

RE: Atheism and happiness
I'm pretty happy. Certainly happier than when I was trying to believe.

Certain kinds of religion can make people very unhappy. It's a guilt thing. But I do see that for some the belief that "something" is looking out for them, might make them feel better. It just seems like a fragile belief. It seems to fail most often when needed the most.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
