Alligators in the Sewer

Alligators in the Sewer
So I was thinking on how people dump their exotic pets when they get too big or too expensive to handle. Like the python and tarantula problem could alligators in the sewer become a reality instead of just an urban legend?

I doubt it very much. I'm fairly sure an alligator wouldn't be able to survive in a sewer environment.

Cecil Adams at the Straight Dope has it in the late 1930s there were a few 2 foot size gators in the NYC sewer system. The Commissioner at the time had them exterminated.

In the years since, the original incidents have been GREATLY embellished. The gators were not huge, blind, albino or mutant.
