I thought I was doing myself a favour

RE: I thought I was doing myself a favour
So, at the end of the day, you WERE doing yourself a favor, just not the kind of favor you wanted.

What you're looking for will come with experience and time in the "real world", or just lots of time spent around people who specialize in the area you wish to learn about.

LOL, what I learned in college was that I didn't need a college degree to do what I wanted. I never would have learned that had I never attended a course...so. Win-win.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'm afraid you're right. Patience isn't really something I like practicing. I want to beat my peers. I want to be more successful than them. That's what I want. I thought the course would help achieve that goal.

Then doing the same thing as your peers is probably not the best way to accomplish that. If you're all going for similar degrees in similar fields you will all likely share a similar level of success. You're going to have to break the mold buddy (I imagine critical thinking will help immensely in this regard).

Critical thinking aids problem-solving by helping you to identify problems which may be inherent in your thinking.

My point of contention is that it is focused on arguing. I'm not a professional debtor nor do I aspire to be one. There seems to little in the way of real problem solving. Not every life situation needs to be argued.

Screwdrivers are built to turn screws, but they also make great pry-bars, or even self-defense weapons.

Simply because they cast the lessons in the context of argumentation doesn't mean that that is the only way you can or should use them.

Yeah, I feel you guys. I guess sometimes I get too focused on the narrow perspective. Good thing I wrote here because I was beginning to get a bit too frustrated and I may have given up. Good looking out.
