Should children be violently abused without their permission.
August 7, 2014 at 4:38 pm
For example Islam and Judaism proscribe circumcision.
But the child is never consulted in this matter.
There may have been great health benefits from this procedure in ages past but in the modern world?
Germany where this procedure is not routine, mooted banning it on human rights grounds, there was uproar from the religious communities and it was quietly dropped.
Lets go one further FGM Female Genital Mutilation as Practised throughout a great part of North Africa mainly by Islamic communities. Extreme unnecessary violence against little girls leading to lifelong medical problems.
Should we endeavour to ban these practises or should we not upset the rights of religious people to violate their children.

"Proscribe" means to forbid or condemn.
Of course, these things shouldn't be forced on the children. My tolerance of religious sensibilities diminishes daily.

Should they be violently abused assuming that they -do- give their permission?

Children can't consent.
Both FGM and MGM should be banned until the age of majority when the individual can choose.

Circumcision is a wonderful thing.

I think circumcision should be left up to the individual. wait until they're adults, and they can make the decision themselves. You'd think giving birth and such would be complicated enough without having to take a knife to one of the child's organs.

Talk about a rough first experience.

I think he meant "prescribe". Funny how one letter made the whole sentence mean the opposite of what he was trying to say.
