Mary Sue, Marty Stu
#21
RE: Mary Sue, Marty Stu
Don't even get me started on Twilight and its ilk...lol.
Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?

Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.

My wife says that True Blood is how you vicariously live a life of danger and sex when you look like Charlaine Harris.

I'm getting the impression we may need to start a Twilight rage thread.

Luckily, I've forgotten enough of those stupid books that all I have left is the tainted aftertaste of shitty writing and I don't remember many of the particulars.

Which are worse the books or the movies? (I only watched the first movie. and I don't read, the only stuff I read this year are college stuff, Internet articles, a religious book about the role of religion in life given to me by ma mama (too many logical fallacies, even for a person like me) and parts of the bible and koran)

Apparently, the books are popular among those in Al Qaida:

For those who haven't seen it, Al Qaida isn't happy with the "truther" conspiracy theorists. either.

For those who don't know, "The Onion" is satire.

The books.

Each movie is over in about two hours; the books will suck 8 to 10 hours out of your life.

EACH.

The character that jumps to mind is Patrick Swayze's James Dalton in Roadhouse.

Badass? Check.
A shady past (though it wasn't really his fault and he feels bad about it)? Indeed.
Drives a cool car (when he isn't obliged to hide it from pissed off bar patrons)? Yep.
Sensitive and educated (a background in philosophy, for Christ's sake!)? Covered.
Cool enough to hang with Sam Eliot? You better believe it.
Gains the trust, respect, and friendship of all the right locals in record time? Absolutely.
Woos and beds the hottest doctor in all of Missouri? But of course.
Beats the shit out of people for a living but has too much integrity to join the bad guys? Was there any doubt?

My guess is that the original completed draft of the screenplay was probably covered with the writer's cum stains.
