I haven't put this thread in the wrong section, I just want to talk about how your psychology can improve your fitness.

The other day I did 50 proper push ups, 1 per second and with no breaks. This is an improvement from last year when I could do 38.

I always think that my psychology plays an important part in how well I do at this push up challenge which I do once a day usually.
I usually think about punching someone in the face, or some inspirational sports personality like lionel messi or mike tyson.
Another thought I usually have is when I reach 40 I always think this is where I want to be, at the difficult part.

I general thinking about tits and ass gets me horny and gets my testosterone high ready to go to the gym, and some good music.
But for short powerful bursts of aggression I always find it better to think about punching someone you hate to death, working out after you have had an argument or other adrenaline creating activities is effective too I think.

Just wondered what anyone else thinks when they go to do something physically demanding.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

i like this post from paulpablo

admitting to some serious mental instability

i agree you need to be a psychopath to be in the great 1% of idolised successful sports stars

same goes for great dictators and CEOs

some of my best athletic achievements have come after a great vision

i needed to use the self-delusion and the motivation of trauma

you either unleash your destructive rage and create your dreams or sit with your PTSD

this thread has legs

Hmmm, I don't know, there very well could be something to it for some people. Personally if I'm doing something like pull ups or sit ups or running, a rote physical exercise, I don't think that it makes a difference. I can do the amount I can do. That could very well have something to do with my own personality though. For example in my early twenties I was a runner and when I was in training my mile time very rarely regressed. I only ever ran a faster mile. So day to day it didn't make a difference for me.

However when it comes to doing a sport, especially a mentally demanding sport (mine is rock climbing) psychology is very important. If I don't feel good I don't climb well. To be at peak I really have to be in a good state of mind. For my girlfriend, who is also an very avid rock climber it is even more important. She battles with terrible chronic insomnia and if she hasn't been sleeping she can barely climb at all, even if she is totally functional in other ways.
