Convert or Move Out: Emergency
High tides have hit the lives of my wife and I.

9 months ago we left religion. 3 months ago I fell ill, was hospitalized and lost my job, and consequently had to move in with my believing in-laws.

But, after 3 months of living with our in-laws, my wife and I have been given an ultimatum. "Convert or move out."

I don't know where to turn. We only know believers, our only family are believers. I'm tired of being a secular family (my wide and I) among believers. Their help always comes with strings attached, but if in four weeks, things don't get better, my wife and I will have to leave school and work to live with my parents who live in a small town an hour and a half from here. I am thankful that they have offered to take us in, but I am afraid to be in the same situation again.

The judgments are heavy, by patience has gone thin, and we have no secular friends to turn to. We have no money and find it hard to travel 20 miles to meet with secularists.

I never thought that being atheist was good enough to make someone homeless. I'm almost confused, as if I live in a dream. I never fathomed such hate and apathy could be applied for a simple lack of belief.

Where do I go? Where do I turn?

We are out of the house by the 30th of this month.

Help.

Damn. Are there shelters in your area? Start working on Plan B, and Plan C, in case this situation repeats at your parents.

Is it just you and your wife (no children)? How sick are you? Is your wife capable of working? Do you own a vehicle?

Yes, just wife. No children. Besides newly diagnosed diabtes type 1, my issue was with psychiatric needs. All of which have been met and headed towards full recovery. I have disability coming in since my psychiatric health plummetted pretty low. That's it, I'm capable of work. My wife works, part time because of school. I really hope to be employed within the next 2 weeks or sooner.

We have one car and my wife uses it for school and work. I use public transportation when I can afford it.

I see, thank you. Yes, there are some resources out here. Tomorrow I start making calls to see what help we can get.

Okay cool, so lets put things in perspective then. If you get kicked out by the end of the month it won't be the end of the world. You have some resources, like a car. You wife has a job and you have disability, so there is some income, although it may be extremely limited. You are likely to have some kind of employment soon. So while you may feel this terrible feeling of dread like you are going to be homeless, that's not a realistic fear. You said that everyone you know are believers, but unlike the people you are staying with now they probably aren't all assholes. Just explain that your situation is temporary and start looking for low cost housing that you can move into. There are also normally campgrounds of some kind everywhere that will change not so much to stay in, where you can pay per day. Normally these are filled with interesting people.

Also https://www.couchsurfing.org/ is a travelers network where people host people for free normally for a few days at a time. Couchsurfing. Even though you feel like your options are limited it is not the case. You just have to get creative. Man lived without modern houses for the rest of human existence and if you have to do it for a very limited amount of time, you can do it and it won't be the end of the world.

Shit like this just makes my fucking blood boil. Do these people have their heads that far up their own ass that don't relaize you need help and their goddamn deathcult has nothing to do with it. People use pascals wager all the and ask what do I have to lose as a christian? Well look what Q's inlaws are gonna lose. Shit like this makes me really angry.

Priorities
- Cash
- House

Getting cash, requires a job of some sort... and soon.
How is the job market in that area? Crap, like most, places, I guess....
What sort of skills do you have? Make them count.

Housing requires a bit of searching, unless you want to end up in a shit-hole. But you can go to some crap place for a little while, while you get your finances in order and then move to something better. Last resort: car.... but only stay in your car if you have some place to go, but can't get to it yet. Staying in your car for days and days just makes it more and more difficult to move to a proper place... I guess. Use your parents' place, if they are ok with it, but endeavor to get out within a month.

"convert or get out"?... even your wife must convert or get out?... wow... these must be awesome times for her. -.-'
Some US parents (not just US, but the grand majority of such stories does come from there) are just so blind to the reality of their family, that they throw away the number one building block of christianity: Family!
It says a lot about how christian those people really are, huh?
