Cluelessness?

Thank you for your kind words. I don't have to fight these people, as the Japanese company I work for does not like to fire except when pushed, so there isn't the cut-throat environment that I am used to. I am pushing them to quit saying the word "impossible" with out the exertion of effort, and they resist this. I think that I will be able to try to befriend them in the future but for today and maybe a month or two, I will have to keep pushing so as to help secure all of our jobs. They don't seem to really get what a fix the company is in. We're losing millions while they sit on their asses and say they can't do any better. So they do piss me off a bit. I'm a thorn in their side because I have extensive aluminum casting experience and I tear up their excuses during meetings with executives. But damn, that is my job.

Edit: my original response was too glib, and not actually productive. Sorry, Brakes.

I just think you are a good ole fashion butthole who has a little bit of power and abuses/hides behind it.

Now is this a bad thing in what you do/job? Not nessarily. If you need to remain objective and need to push up, or maintain a given standard then a company needs a butthole if for no other reason to get rid of crappy work and crappy people. It seems this is your job, which means your boss see your potential.

If you are not comfortable with this, then know you are not like your father. If you really want to be you underlings friends and well like, shirk your responsiablities and let people get away with stuff, or find another job.

I smiled when I read that you think I am not likable. Well, to people with good hearts I am likable just fine. But you are not all wrong, no not at all. I once was a person that very few liked, and I swam in hate. I made many harsh decisions because of it. But I got better, I met my current wife while I was contemplating a overseas military assignment and I never looked back.
I have a fantastic wife and family who love me very much and I they. I have good friends at work and they know I will lend them a helping hand when I can.
I do have a problem of poor choices of humor. Once, one of the casting managers that hates me so, cringed instead of laughed when I joked that he was kind in hiring the blind to inspect parts but to please hire at least one who can see. He didn't even smile and I didn't apologize. So that's kind of how it is.
They complain that we are too picky, and I complain that no one likes shit products and to just make the 10% borderline parts like the 90% good parts an I'll get off of his ass. Well, I have to push and push hard because it is my duty, but for me, as someone who is trying to be a recovering "ass-hole" as you put it, it is a struggle to do it in the right way with the right words.

Yes, I think it is my delivery. I'm too brusk for most. It is hard for me to keep in mind that others do not see things as I do. I must try to do better yet again.

I, too, am too brusque at times.

Funny update..

I just got back from the company ZOO outing where the company rented out the whole Columbia SC zoo for it's employees. As luck would have it we kept running into one of the casting guys and his family. I treated him like a long lost friend and his wife and kids were very friendly with mine. I'm sure he hated being nice to me but he was very personable and friendly. So maybe one down two to go..
