PlainAgnostic
HelloEveryone.

I am PlainAgnostic. I am Plain because I live in Kansas, a plain state.

I have been an agnostic/atheist since 1973.

I use the old definitions of atheism and agnosticism. Atheists claim their is no god. Agnostics say they do not know whether there is a god.

Sometimes I call myself an ignostic. Ignostic means that my atheism/agnostic position depends on the definition of god being used. I am an atheist about some concepts of god, i.e., claim that some concepts of god flat out do not exist. I am an agnostic about other concepts of god, i.e., claim not to know whether other concepts of god exist. The Wikipedia article, "Ignosticism," gives a more thorough definition.

I am married, have four step children, a dog and a cat.

I love to read.

For Christmas I got a Barnes and Noble Nook ebook reader.

Hi PlainAgnostic,

welcome to AF. I'm wondering how you can occasionally regard yourself as ignostic when by definition of being agnostic you suppose no knowledge of any god.

Kind regards, TruthWorthy.

Welcome to the forums PlainAgnostic.

I do believe that the original definition of agnosticism was defined by Thomas Henry Huxley who defined it has having no knowledge of God. Agnosticism=considering God unknown or unknowable as opposed to gnosticism. So I am not sure what you mean by you use the "old definition" of gnosticism? I thought that other "versions" are bastardized misunderstandings of the term.
