Your grandmother might be right but simply can't express why. Her insistence on your belief was wrong, since no one can choose to believe if that choice is removed from them. Women, I find, more than most use this fear tactic to safeguard their children from harm. In lots of ways it's a useful natural tactic. In this instance it's counter productive.

She's loved you and cared for you. It's up to you how you feel she would cope with you confronting the subject. It might cause her irrepaireable pain. It's natural to fight your parents when leaving home as part of asserting your independence.

To me, the clearly right thing to do is to love and respect first.
