I fail to believe how an individual can believe in it, that was the point in this thread, I want someone to explain to me why they believe in it.

Because god said to.

I am new to these forums, therefore I have a hefty amount of things rolling around in my mind that need discussion .. allow me to start with this.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Right, so the first 10 words into the bible .. and there is thousands of questions unanswered already.

Who is god ? .. How did he create the heavens and the earth ? Who created god ? ..

I would really like to hear some words from someone who believes in genesis. I have no idea how anyone could possibly find this a feasible beginning to the beauty of life.

As an introduction, genesis one sets out to explain God in his temple. It is nothing to do with cosmology or origins. That much is very clear from literal translation of the text.

How is this "very clear from literal translation of the text"?

Frods has this alternative reality that he inhabits.

Oddly, you get used to him after a while.

Well, there's your problem right there. Stop thinking. It's really bad for the salvation thing.

We know from what Paul wrote that it is by faith we are saved, not works. Faith is believing what you're told without evidence and defended against all evidence. This means we shouldn't think and be as gullible as we can or our loving Lord will be forced to torture us for all eternity. Praise the sweet name of Jesus.

Quote:"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Right, so the first 10 words into the bible .. and there is thousands of questions unanswered already.

Again, stop thinking. That's your problem. Just shut up and believe what you're told.

Quote:Who is god ? .. How did he create the heavens and the earth ? Who created god ? ..

In order:
1. Yahweh, of course. Not Allah, Zeus, Odin, Ra, Shiva, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
2. By pure fucking magic, what else?
3. Yahweh is eternal and doesn't need to be created. Of course, the late heathen trash Carl Sagan once said, "why not save a step and say the universe is eternal?". He's now burning in Hell for that.

Quote:I would really like to hear some words from someone who believes in genesis. I have no idea how anyone could possibly find this a feasible beginning to the beauty of life.
Oh please, you insult my faith thinking this is the worst thing my faith had to overcome. Just in the first two chapters alone, we have such gems as:

1. The sky is a dome.
2. Space is filled with water.
3. Plants were created before the sun.
4. The sun and all the stars were created at once.
5. Yahweh created animals before man in Gen 1 and after man in Gen 2.
6. Yahweh created man and woman at the same time in Gen 1 and separately in Gen 2.
7. Yahweh made woman from man. This contradicts heathen science which says men are genetic modifications on the female design.
8. Yahweh creates birds from water in Gen 1 and from the ground in Gen 2.
9. There was no death until Eve ate the magic fruit after speaking to the talking snake in Gen 3, so we can't reconcile evolution (which relies on reproduction and death) as the means of producing humanity when death didn't exist until after humans were created.
10. Who did the children of Adam and Eve have sex with? Each other? *Banjos playing*

My faith has overcome all that and remained as strong as ever!

Glory!

True, the person who wrote Genesis was a goat herder, but he also was, at one time, a prince of Egypt who had the best education in the world at the time.

I suppose I don't need to tell you how modern scientists to this very day, still can't figure out how the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids.

So apparently they did possess knowledge that we don't.

Kindly grow the fuck up and get with the program. "Moses" is just as phony as all the rest of your bullshit.

Archaeology has dismissed your stories as utter fiction.

"a prince of Egypt"

According to the myth. But there's no mention of it in Egyptian history. Now, I grant the information we have is fragmentary but I would suggest we would have some Egyptian records mentioning it.

Yes, we know how the pyramids were built. The pyramid builders' village has been found, as has the remnants of a ramp used to get the blocks up to the higher parts of the pyramids.
