When Constantine legalized Christianity they were about 5% of the empires population. Just the next few emperors were Christian unlike Constantine. Romans would've have though much of this at first as a number of emperors were in fringe cults in the past. The problem was that these emporers didn't check their Christianity at the door like presidents now.

Christianity wasn't established until the reign of Theodosius. Julian for example pushed back.

The work of the Holy Spirit through those who knew Jesus, the conviction of the Holy Spirit is powerful but, not forceful, on the hearts of man. Many gave up their pagan gods that never spoke to them in their hearts, when the Holy Spirit did they realized they had met the one true God.

Just a guess, but probably for political reasons.

The Roman empire already had started to crumble and monothism is better suited to keep people in line than polytheism. Especially when this religion explicitly says that any ruler is sent by god and people have to obey.

Yeah right. God was eager to send messages after messages in the middle east, angry about a (relatively) tiny geographical area not following his orders, but simply couldn`t give a flying fuck about Latin America, where he was absent for centuries.

Believing this stuff...incredible.
If it`s true that our species is alone in the universe then I`d have to say the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.
