Most of them begin with "I can demonstrate this using science" and quickly end up with "magic." The staggering consequences of this seem to evade them, for some reason. Angel
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

1) you have to assume the absence of the daughter isotope at the start of process.
2) you have to assume constant decay rates. We have only been able to observe their rates for the past 100-150 years. Before that we can reasonably guess the affects of the earth's magnetic field and other factors would have on decay, but that is all they will ever be: an educated guess.
3) no parent or daughter isotopes were lost or added during the process.
I'm going to leave it at that and see where the replies take it. Hope to here from you guys soon.
I'm not too interested in chemistry myself, but I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that radiometric dating can be very reliable. The same material can often be calibrated using several elements, not just one. For your arguments to hold water, all elements would need to have had the same kind of "contamination" at the start of their life which is a ridiculous position to take.

Where do you think you get the fuel for your motor-vehicle from? Form some young-earth source?? Or from fossil-oil?

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke

When you see the word "Calvinist" under religious views, you know you are talking to a mind that would be as inert as a rock but for the fact that it is decaying to dust.

Good point, Aractus, and the same argumet applies to changing the decay rates. The possibility that the physical laws change such that different elements have exactly proportional changes in rate is even more unlikely.

One could always bring out the notion that one of god's years is equal to a flexible number of radioactive decay years that stretches to suit the creatard's argument.

Or in other words: let's redefine words until the story fits Big Grin
