But nowhere else in the world has anything like the open carry movement.
Who think taking an assault rifle into Target is perfectly normal.

No getting around it. We are exceptionally weird, and not in a good way.

Dumb bitch had a loaded gun in her handbag. As if that wasn't stupid enough, the gun was within reach of her 2-year old that as I understand it was sitting in the shopping trolley.

People have a right to privacy and because that right exists some bad things will come of it. Some will use their privacy to conceal child molestation or the cooking of meth or some other dastardly deed. People have the right to carry weapons and because that right exists some bad things will come of it.....like this tragic accident.
She had some responsibilities too.

I live out in the country, and we have coyotes and cougars locally. I haven't yet bought a shotgun, but it's on the shopping list.

RationalPoet.......That is more understandable. But even with wild animals most of the time a loud noise without actually shooting them will scare them off. Still does not change that we have way too many guns as a result of an industry, much like big oil doesn't care about green house gasses, we still have way too many.

I agree she had some responsibilities and I would go as far as to say that this was her fault. It would have been her fault too if she died in a house fire caused by the toddler finding and playing with matches or a lighter.

It is this woman's irresponsibility that is at fault not the fact that she was permitted to carry a hand gun.

"Go as far?" It was 100% her fault. This was a blatant act of wanton stupidity, which will undoubtedly scar a human being for life. We're all just lucky she only got herself killed.

Um no, I am tired of this cop out bullshit excuse that the marketing of guns like they are toys has nothing to do with why things like this happen. The gun makers have a responsibility to insure they do not get into irresponsible hands. Just like we don't allow 5 year olds to drive cars.

We have a flooded gun market which is why things like this happen. Unless the makers and the NRA are sued, they will continue to merely protect profits and hand guns out like toys.

We don't let 5 year olds buy handguns either, but we do market cars (and in your estimation, guns) to the 5 year old in all of us.

How have you determined that the gun market is flooded, btw? I can see saying that, for example, the AR15 market is flooded (take a look at their reporting), but once the AR craze dies out there will be a new favorite. Of course, bolt actions (and semi-autos) in the .22LR and 270Win have been steady since the 60's and are gaining market share, so there have been solid producers, marching forward with reasonable amounts of growth all of this time as well. Handguns...doing marvelously well, of course.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

While we are at it lets sue the spoon manufacturers for making people fat.
