Mind Helping Me Break This Down?

RE: Mind Helping Me Break This Down?
I do have a little bit of an ulterior motive here. Anybody mind analyzing why it's a steaming pile?

You see, I'm dating someone who, admittedly, wants the ancient alien hypothesis to be true, but is totally willing to poke holes in it as to why it might not be. He might be lurking as we speak.

Please be fairly nice about it, though. I kinda like this one :p

Well you don't have to forward our comments unfiltered Smile
Well, at least it's better than the mermaids from the other thread...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalm 14, KJV revised edition

Quote:The Ancient Astronaut Theory is perhaps one of the most controversial of the bunch.

The ancient astronaut theory is not a theory...any more than creationism is a theory. They are both piles of shit.

I was wondering when someone would point that out.

The number of leaps of logic one needs just to begin the "ancient alien" stuff is insane.

1) aliens exist
2) it's possible to detect them
3) they're advanced enough to employ interstellar travel
4) they visited our planet in specific
5) they chose to intervene on our planet in specific, on the behalf of our species in specific
6) they knew what interventions would be beneficial to our species
7) they left incontrovertible proof of their interaction with us

I could keep going, but seriously, the number of presuppositions you have to make just to even consider "ancient aliens" is even higher than the presuppostions needed for Creationism.

1) Erich von Däniken has been debunked about a million times. And this is nothing else than rehashing his so called theories using different sites and myths.

2) Time and space is the same issue it has been 40 years ago.

3) I would have to look into all that guy is mentioning about history to debunk that too, which would a considerable amount of time and serious sources as in books and scientific websites. But the overall character of the website and "the fellow soul searcher" doesn't seem worth the effort.

4) Mentioning the History channel and the Discovery network is as worthy to a scientific approach as mentioning Fox news for politics. They may get some things right, but as far as European history is concerned - I actually studied that at university - they get it so wrong that's it's hard not to throw a fit of anger. It's aimed at an imbecile audience. And I guess he's talking about their ancient aliens bullshit series someone barfed up while sitting on the toilet.

5) His appeal to forbidden knowledge, as if there was some agency keeping us from knowing the real history.
