The only possible justification for this I can see is if her alterations lower the value of the vehicle and she has full coverage. Even that seems a stretch though.

I was wondering if it was a lease. If so, I could imagine the dealership being a little more persnickety about marring the paint with lettering, and that would be reflected in the fine print on the insurance. She might pay the premium, but the policy is protecting the dealerships resale value.

Shouldn't the lease contract and the insurance policy be two very different things though?

I would argue that she clearly already has an infallible insurance policy so taking out another one was clearly a joke.
