A strange but curious question: if you had a time machine...

I've thought of this scenario, and I'm just interested to hear out different thoughts. It sounds a bit strange, but I am genuinely interested so hear me out.
Imagine there was something which could take you back in time so you could observe the formation of any of the religions in the world today or 'dead' religions (e.g. Christianity, Islam, Judaism etc) and you'd be an unseen observer, nobody else can see you and you do not interact with these figures, just observe, which religion would you want to see?
Would you want to see the formation of Christianity from the time of Jesus? Or the inception of Islam from Mohammed? Etc. You can only pick one.

I'd go way earlier. Probably the inception of the Egyptian Pantheon, seeing how the weather and agriculture shaped the personalities of their gods would be pretty cool.

Ancient Greece and Greek gods seems more interesting than any monotheistic mainstream religion nowadays. And yes, in Greece there are religious groups that are
reviving ancient Greek religions - If you ask me, still more interesting than Christianity. At least I get to pick a god (I prefer Hades, when playing Age of Mythology he was my favourite)

Why would I want to watch religion when I could travel several million years back and see some dinosaurs?

I would prefer to visit ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, or Egypt than Jerusalem of 2,000 years ago.

I would most likely go back to the matriarchal period when goddess worship was prevalent, before man ruined everything with monotheistic patriarchy.

The historical Jesus most likely existed.

I'd be watching people making stuff up and/or killing lots of other people. I can go anywhere and see that :p
