Why I'm Still a Christian
RE: Why I'm Still a Christian
No one can choose to believe. Belief is a state of mind. If you are choosing to, then what you mean is you are choosing to say you believe it.

Yeah, I disregard it because it's made up. Just like you disregard every other holy book but your own.

Like I said before, the bible says that anyone who truly seeks God will find him. I can't picture God dinging anyone who truly wants to know him, because he hasn't had the opportunity to hear of Jesus Christ.

I've tried. I've called him out many, many times. He decides to remain hidden from me. So either he wants nothing to do with me, or he's not real.

But of course, it's my fault for not trying hard enough. That way god can never lose, and still exists even when he doesn't. It's these win/win things that keep religion going too.

If I saw a situation in which non-theists were all living in love, peace and harmony your argument would be much more convincing to me, but I've never seen that yet.

Never seen a group of religious people doing this either. Your point?

My point is that we all need Christ for our salvation.

Unless we'd never heard of him, it seems.

They still do. Those who have never heard of him, but seek him are saved though him.

I've heard of him. I've studied him in a lot of detail. I know way more about him than most christians.

Ah, I'm done for today with this. My head's about to explode.

I believe you, and I definitely can't judge you and why you believe as you do. I just have to go on my own experiences, what the scripture says to me, and what has resulted. When we call on him, we need to be open to what accepting him entails. Often when somebody calls on him they really don't want to hear the answer and what it means for them. What is it he is supposed to tell you?

He has had plenty of opportunities, and I haven't been asking for myself, but for him to stop the suffering in this world. He's not interested. I couldn't be more sincere in wanting the end of suffering, I'd give my life for it.

But no, suffering continues needlessly. He can stop it but he won't, so even if I thought he was real, I would not worship him because he's a sick bastard. Whatever plan he has, he can do it without all this suffering.

He never "does" anything that can't happen by itself.

Do you believe that there is no good reason for anything to happen that causes suffering? Sounds like you're the one looking for a fantasyland.
