I don't know where he went to school.

I only know that he is very comfortable speaking out of ignorance, rather than learning the facts about things.

For once, I'm not just dogging on him. His posts are littered with homophones, simple spelling errors and words where he where he obviously doesn't understand the meaning, but still uses consistently. Assimilate is a good example of that last. He uses it over and over as if it means to destroy, hide or eradicate something instead of meaning to take something and make it a fully integrated part of something else.

Yest, he's a tool and a fuck-wit, but so is GC but he can at least speak the language (for the most part) properly.

I try to not judge people based on their language skills. I'm not native myself, sometimes I make mistakes.

Who said I was judging?!?

For that, at least. Big Grin

Seriously, it's just something I've noticed and tried to point out. If he speaks English as a second language or got a raw deal from his education, it's still obvious there something up.

Hey, I didn't say you were judging him, I said I don't like judging people X reasons. I've noticed it as well, too much confusion to bother me. Drich is probably the person I've spoken less in AF

It was a scape goat for those who wanted out of the conversation without taking one on the chin. Since everyone wants out I get the option to speak further or drop the topic all together.

Ideally it would have just narrowed the field, so I would not have to waist time researching stuff none of you care about.

The thing is, Drich has been observed being corrected in his language usage on this forum, complete with citations in one instance, and still he clings to his error.

It's as if he's unable to admit any sort of error or ignorance at all. I agree, Dys, that language errors should not be fodder for heckoing, but with Drich, I do sometimes broach that policy, precisely because he absolutely refuses to correct his error even in the face of authoritative sources.

It's called burry my heart at wounded knee. It is about the subjugation and assimilation of the 'Sue' Indians into white American culture. What I am saying here is this very thing is still going on when we demand that people live in such a way that is 'tolerant' of all cultures.

You clearly don't understand that that "assimilation" consisted of genocide. Comparing modern cultural tolerance with genocide is yet more evidence that you're dumber than a pile of fucking bricks.

Also, it's spelt "Sioux" and "bury". Your ignorance is stunning.

You guys are too easy sometimes.
In the movie I referenced "bury my heart at wounded knee" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0821638/
http://www.jacknilan.com/nativeamerican/...heart.html

the stated goal of Henry Dawes http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_L._Dawes
Was to break the will of the plains Indians and put them on reservations. He was the senator who sponsered the Dawes act (in the movie and in real life) which was later found to be the piece of legislation that had illegally stolen land (the Dakotas) from Indians and given it to the goverment.

He was quoted in saying " we will assimilate the Sioux or we will see them extinct."

Honestly this is what I think of when someone says assimilate.
http://youtu.be/AyenRCJ_4Ww

Really listen to what's being said:
The Borg had a standard set of hails which were sent to those targeted for assimilation. The actual wording varied, but the hails almost always included the following information:

Self identification ("We are the Borg.")
Intention to assimilate the target ("You will be assimilated"), ("Existence as you know it is over")
The uselessness of attempted resistance by the target ("Resistance is futile")
-memory alpha

Pair this with the actual definition from merrium Webster
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/assimilate

And I think we have an excellent illustrative use of the word when placed in the context/given of the sue Indians.

Which is happening again here now with anyone who opposes the vanilla existence western culture mandates.

Oh and we don't say homophones here, that intollerant! We say "eye phone 6"

And could one possibly exhibit the evangelical Christian spirit better than by believing being right is simply a matter of not admitting you are wrong?

I've read the book, thanks. The Sioux certainly haven't been assimilated. The were forced onto a reservation -- those who chose to stay in America, that is -- and at greatly reduced numbers due to a campaign aimed at genocide in order to remove them as an obstacle to settlement in the Dakotas, and the exploitation of the minerals therein. They had their lands expropriated, their children taken away from them to be educated in schools run by whites, and were given starvation rations for many years before the 1890 massacre.

That the word "assimilation" was used by the architect of their demise is not an example of correct usage, but rather, of euphemism. It was for all intents and purposes an incomplete genocide but a successful ethnic cleansing.

Probably because it's an entirely different tribe, from a different part of the country, with different traditions. It'd be as if I were talking about Koreans, and then made a joke about Vietnamese.

But hey, I guess to some folks, they all look the same, eh?
