The 2d of the 7th is hauntingly beautiful.

I couldn't find a single post here with a Franz Liszt composition, so...

Going to Symphony Hall tonight for Mahler's First and Bruch's First Violin Concerto.  Also some modern piece of shit that they feel compelled to try to shove up everyone's asshole in the guise of introducing new "music."

Oh Min, you remind me of Jed Bartlet in that episode... "It's not classical if the composer finished writing it this afternoon!!!"

All I've heard of Bruch so far left me unimpressed though, so I'll be interested in your judgment.

Most of this shit sounds like they never finished it at all.  "Concerto for Blender and Chain Saw in Whatever."

I love Bruch's Scottish Fantasy.

...

I think I may have heard that one.

Anyway, it is what you get for going to concerts with composers who were not dead by 1900.

Yeah and next year the only concert we're going to is an all-Mozart program.  I'm tired of having this shit inserted into every concert they do.  When they call to find out why we haven't renewed out subscription I will tell them....in plain English.

Tsk tsk. This is why we can't have nice things.

See, Alex, MOZART! Everyone of taste and judgement loves Mozart.

Perhaps this is fodder for a separate thread, but there have been few regular participants here so I'll just float the idea.

Is it simply instrumentation that makes a piece of music 'classical'? In another thread somebody rightly made fun of the metal/classical connection. I've been critical in other threads of how the 'classically' trained street cred CV line is often overused and mostly untrue.

If not instrumentation, why isn't Rime of the Ancient Mariner considered classical? I'm in no way politicking here, just soliciting opinion.
