Earth
RE: Earth
Incidentally, I noticed Stephen Hawking nipped up to that stage alright when he collected his BAFTA. I hope the Benefits Agency remember that next time he goes to collect his Disability Allowance.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

My religious friend has recently started saying to me that the Earth is alive and that it is older than the universe. I asked him how this was possible and he just said "you wouldn't understand" because I'm not religious.
I've never heard this about the Earth being older than the universe so I was curious have any of you ever heard this before as it's new to me.

Well, it's new to me, too, but there's a new bullshit born every second, as they say.

Well, maybe if you see it like this: the earth is a bit over 4 billion years old. If you accept that but believe that the universe is only 6000 years old, you would get this result Big Grin

But seriously, the earth was formed 4.5 billion years ago from the leftovers of some supernovae. The universe as we know it dates back 13.7 billion years ago. There's not much of a debate.

Well, some lower mass stars in globular clusters do exhibit properties which, according to stellar evolution theory, would suggest they are comsiderably older than 13.7 billion years.

So it is not unheard of for generally well validated theories to predict extraordinary things in some circumstances.

RE: Earth
I myself have never heard that claim ever before... Maybe a Pagan faith but even a lot of Pagan's I do know probably wouldn't say that either... There more with the alignment of the planets and stars.. Nice people and very open and liberal but there beliefs are out there... I make no judgement though.. There friends and we don't talk about faith or religion that much anyways.

How odd.

If the earth is sentient I'll bet it's pissed...
I reject your reality and substitute my own!
