Question for Atheists

But yeah, get bent.

I get that you might not be aware of it the *first* time you broke it, but after the auto-generated notice that your post was moderated (and why) landed in your PM inbox, any pretense to ignorance is lost - and you did it again a second time.

As an administrator of this site - let me make something perfectly clear. This is not a place to promote your work. This is not a focus group for your use. This is a community of people who are here to discuss various topics - who actually want to *be* part of the community.

As you've indicated that it's your intent to use us for your own purposes and then leave, I submit that it is you, sir, who needs to get bent.

So get bent.

My character is going to be an arrogant, condescening asshole who lives in a basement and spends his day spewing vitriol to anyone who opposes his belief system.

To those of you who were kind to me today, I thank you. I took notes and will take what you said into consideration. To the rest of you. Fuck off.

So you are going to portray the people who were kind to you the same as the people who were mean to you.

Unless by 'take what you said into consideration' you mean your book will have both an arrogant atheist and a kind atheist. You know, like humans.

Thus sayeth the author of The Outsider: "Following a terrible tragedy that took his parents from him, Stanley Shaw is lured into a Devil worshipping cult by his long lost aunt. He struggles to come to terms with the death of his parents, his new surroundings, and an increasingly complicated love life while trying to survive in a place kept far away from the modern world. Will he be able to overcome the evil Pastor Brown? Or will the Unclean Spirit walk the Earth again?"

I'd love to hear about the 'research' that went into the Devil worshipping cult. Somehow I doubt it was painstaking. At least he knows everything he needs to know about the typical Atheist.

What a tool.

Wow. I guess his book was published, so some people must like it. It's not the type of reading I enjoy. (Of course, I don't mean to insult Tony's writing skills. I could never write a book and get it published.)

Yeah I was being sarcastic. I don't know why I capitalized it and I'll repeat, why does it matter?

I've been trying to have a civil discussion here and you guys are nitpicking the shit out of everything I say. If you don't like the fact that I capitalized Atheist, piss off.

The first six pages, he was a sweetheart. Is this where it started to go south?

Too bad he didn't conclude atheists are capitalization Nazis. There would be a ring of truth to that.

And if you don't like being criticised in any way over your research, you can piss off. And take your arrogant condescension with you.

I'm being condescending? You're talking down to me because I capitalized Atheist. Atheist is a group. You may only share on characteristic that you all agree that God doesn't exist, and that maybe all that you share, but in that belief you are a group. The name of that group is Atheist. Which is a noun. Nouns are capitalized.

Not ALL nouns. Atheist and theist are nouns that are only capitalized at the beginning of a sentence or when they are part of the name of an organization, like Atheist Forums. Your Sentences would look pretty odd if you capitalized every Noun. It's proper nouns that are capitalized.

I didn't come here to argue over the merits of Atheists or Atheism, I came here to ask a simple question. If you don't want to contribute to that, why are you saying anything?

If you were a keen observer of humans, which is a valuable trait for a writer, you might have observed a tendency among the atheists here to care about capitalization and spelling.

So what? He made it very clear that his intended audience are American rightwing christians. And going by his sweeping assumptions and arrogance, he never intended to write something different anyway.

Then honestly, by all rights and to protect the people on this forum from being further scrutinized by an individual who clearly had this sort of motive, he should have been immediately banned. If it was never his "true" intent to engage in meaningful discussion with the people here, whether that be to learn or research, one can surmise that it WAS his intention to harass, troll and agitate anyone daring to respond.

I envision a one dimensional, stereotype character.

He wanted to be proven right. Simple as that.

A few posts in he said that he had been called out by christians for not portraying some christian character as patriotic enough. So it's probably not unfair to assume who his readership is.

The whole nitpicking thing was about him constantly trying to paint atheists as a close knit group with some kind of hive mind.
