Clearly you don't know how to read for content.

Quote:And seriously, only you give a fuck about all music having to always be deep and never be fun. I really hate this bullshit attitude where fans of one type of music shit on another type of music. No one, no matter what type of music they preform gets to that level if they suck.

Actually, the idea that fun music has to be dumbed down for simpletons doesn't cut ice with me; it's a false dichotomy. Music can be fun without being banal. Musical quality need not be wrapped in dusty seriousness. Frank Zappa, Mozart, Level 42, and too many others to name are evidence of that.

Quote:You like what you like, and that is all there is to it.

We all do.  The thing you haven't learnt yet is that just because you like it, that doesn't mean it's good music.  It just means that you like it.

This isn't about ABBA, this is about taste in general,

Not everything you do has to be done in a library to be considered talented.

The Ramones were extremely talented but to say "Beat On The Brat" is a deep song would be bullshit. And their cord progressions were not that complicated for the vast majority of their songs. There are plenty of ABBA songs that have a wider range of cords than that song and I already listed their influences and backgrounds.

I love the Ramones as well, like Metallica too. Just say you don't like ABBA and stop this bullshit crap that they are not talented. They never pretended to be anything more than fun. Fun is not a crime. Fun takes as much talent at that level as deep.

Again, you could say that to their faces if you want, an they would laugh in your face.

Oh and please argue that AC/DC's lyrics are deep please.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a fucking joke. Citing it as a badge of credibility is worse than the 'classically trained' bit. Seriously, what credibility can there be to this when ABBA is in and the likes of Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden aren't?

I don't think anyone would seriously make this claim, but AC/DC's use of double entendre is the best in the business.

UGGGGGG,

Even if you magically removed ABBA from the RR hall of fame, with all the artists that ARE in there are you going to say they all suck because some you like didn't make it?

Are the Beatles in it? Is Bob Dylan in it?<--------Hate his voice. Dylan sounds to me like a cat being strangled.

Why yes they are in the hall of fame.

https://rockhall.com/inductees/alphabetical/A/

The inductees are limited just like the baseball hall of fame an NFL hall of fame. If the Rock and Roll Hall of fame were a Joke it would make more sense if the Beatles and Dylan were not in it at all.

I'd say you need to go through that entire list of artists before you call the Rock and Roll Hall of fame a joke.

Like I said, ABBA is talented. That is why they got as far as they did and why they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.

Brian,
You're missing my point. I am familiar with artists that have been inducted. The R&R Hall of Fame isn't so much a joke because who is in (although this is ripe for debate), but because of those that have been omitted; e.g. Deep Purple and Iron Maiden. ABBA being in and these bands being left out is the same as having Cooperstown enshrine Mario Mendoza while ignoring Ernie Banks.

NO, I did not miss your point.

You are trying to use the omissions to justify your own tastes. If it worked like that I most certainly would NOT put Bob Dylan in there.

I watch the NFL induction year after year. Sometimes I run across a player I never heard of, and think about the players that don't get in, especially the ones from my team.

It isn't a lack of talent by Dylan or ABBA or the ones who don't get in, it is simply a matter of limits.

I listen to someone like Elvis and cant understand why so many like him. I would call him a talented performer certianly, but most of his songs were written for him and his lyrics also were not that deep, but he WAS a talented person.

I think a very important point which needs to be emphasised is that taste in music is intrinsically a subjective matter; there is no right and wrong as there is with science, but only opinions. Yes, some bands happen to have a positive effect on a large number of people, which in turn leads to quantifiable success, but using this quantifiability to question the validity of someone's opinion does not make sense. The impact that music has on someone is not something which is measurable; it is wholly unique to them and different for every individual. Of course, people's musical preferences can be questioned but it's just a rather irrational thing to do seeing as no facts can be derived from subjective arguments.

I think ABBA are freakin' awesome personally Big Grin I wouldn't find their songs particularly lyrically deep in comparison to other artists I like, but few bands have written melodies that I find as infectiously catchy and mood-turning (in my opinion) Big Grin

Most of their lyrics are not deep. But that isn't why they wrote their songs. Their arrangements however are damned good and the girls have awesome voices.

Come now! Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson had awesome voices. Agnetha and Frida were just good by comparison. I'm not taking anything away, but at least be realistic.

You really should consider seeking professional help with this unhealthy obsession with ABBA you have, Brian.
