My baby's momma found Jesus...

RE: My baby's momma found Jesus...
That may be for the best. At least as far as texas goes. with California it's more like an itchy rash that won't go away. And some people there try to pass laws mandating the killing of gays.

At the risk of being the wet blanket I think kids are best off when their parents don't undermine each other. Doesn't mean you should give her what she wants but I would suggest bargaining with her over how to handle your and mommy's religious disagreement. You don't try to convince him his mother is a fool and she doesn't try to convince him that you are evil and damned. Of course she isn't likely to go for it. I'm pretty sure you will win the battle for his "heart and mind" if it comes down to that.

Do you have shared custody with her? I'd be a little concerned about what she might subject him to if she decides to go to war over this.

It is. It's still a pretty religious place compared to either coast.

I've gone through this, in a way, before. After our breakup, my son's mother was seeing a lady who was evangelist Christian (and a bisexual, right). Michelle insisted on trying to push religion on my son, who was four at the time, which was obvious because my son would ask me what I thought of things like Jesus or the Devil. Aside from telling his mother to have her knock the shit off or else we would reopen the custody case to remove him from Michelle's influence, I gave him straight answers regarding his questions. It was a difficult time, for a year or so, until their relationship went under for other reasons.

Oh, hell no.  Texas needs what sanity it has, thankyewwwverymuch.

Remember atheism is the default position. She was the one that injected god into the balance. Meeting her half way injects half bullshit into the equation and still tips the scales her way.
Critical thinking skills are not negotiable items, and every god interjectiontion should be met with reason, not deference.

Just because she got religious after the breakup doesn't mean they should compromise with this. If she wants to be religious, she's going to have to defend her beliefs before she's given permission to start bringing up a young child in it.

If only it worked that way.  There is actually very little oversight on parenting.  Depending on the mother's legal standing custody wise, she very likely will try to impose it on junior.

I know, which is a shame. Kids have much more to focus on than superstitious stuff that can't be proven, but theists know that if you wait until they're adults they will be much harder to convert. It can happen, especially when someone doesn't have any strong feelings either way, or if they're in some different vulnerable state. It's just much less likely.

We've got 50/50 custody. She can use her half of the controlling interest teaching him nonsense if she wants, that suits me just fine. I'm going to use my half to teach him how to snuff it out. It's poetically symbiotic when you think about it! He's either going to be one hell of an apologist, or he's gonna eat them for breakfast. Unfortunately for my wife, Bill Craig ain't that boy's pappy.

...and I'm not going forward with the goal to make his mother seem foolish. I'm going to make him think about the things she says. My opinions will be withheld. If the conclusions he draws cause him to think she's a fool, it will be because of the things she has said. The conclusions are all his.

Here's some fun facts for your kid Big Grin

1. Religions are arbitrary.
2. Anyone can make up any religion any time they want, and it's as valid as any other.
3. Religions generally only make unfalsifiable claims, which are useless. Whenever they make testable claims, they are shown to be false.
4. Yo mamma crazee.

I believe the correct vernacular is "cray cray."
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
