Atheists not allowed to join FreeMasonry

RE: Atheists not allowed to join FreeMasonry
There was a reddit AMA (ask me anything) thread once where an atheist freemason said it really depended on the lodge you joined, and that some of them were fine with atheists who believed in "a power greater than themselves". He said that in his case, he believed that a bear would be more powerful than him, so technically he met the requirement.

Freemasonry is more of a social group than a religious order though; I think the main reason for atheists joining would be that their family were already members. Whilst I'm not a freemason, my paternal grandfather was a grand master (I have some of his masonic documents in a safe) which is quite interesting. Smile

:looks up: Lazarus!

-Most of the masons I've met (admittedly very few) seemed to conceive of it, and utilize it..... as a small business networking group.  Pretty certain that at least one of them was a dyed in the wool atheist.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Really? that's what you think they do?

They only follow the ancient scriptures of your great ancestors where they were highly advanced spiritual humans. Unlike the degenerate un-spiritual materialistic humanoids we've become.

Masonry is the last salvation of humanity. Atheism is the symptom of the collapse of spirituality in humanity.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

By the way, don't think it has escaped our notice who you are; I expect this new sock will be erased quite soon.

You are an amusing troll.

This doesn't surprise me.  Supreme Being and higher power are vaguely defined and I imagine most masons just don't care since if I remember correctly they aren't allow to talk about religion and politics at the lodge.

Who is he a sock of? If you're allowed to say Smile Don't worry if not.

Doesn't seem like Drich. I was sure that guy would be back as well.

Remember that guy who was like "all atheists are liberals!" and created multiple threads, under several sock accounts, to that effect? Yeah, that guy; I forget who his original username was, but the language was largely the same after a while.

I believe in plenty of powers greater than myself. Lets see .. there is the government, large carnivores, the elements .. oh, and most importantly, my wife.
