How long have you been an atheist?

I'm from the UK, do you think its harder to be an Atheist in the US than it is here?

August of 2009, so 8 months, and I am 29 till the 25 of this month. I have had atheist views, though very small, I need to learn more.
But some of my friends back in high school, considered me agnostic because of the way I was thinking back then, which was 10 years ago.

officially since I was 12 (so about 28 years), but I never really believed in a god as long as I can remember.
