I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are solidly in the Bible Belt:

I was raised in a Christian home. My father was Baptist and my mother is from a Pentacostal-Holiness background. I remember distinctly never ever hearing "have a blessed day" in any normal conversation either at home or in my social circles when I was a teen in high school, and back then I was involved with a group of kids from a Missionary Alliance church. Never heard any of them say that. It seems to be a more recent development within Conservative circles. Distinct evidence of evolution of religion.

Someone in my family recently got into a minor car accident. He said it was a blessing, because he didn't like the car very much anyways. Then he said another irritating phrase, "Everything happens for a reason, it's god's will and I can't change it, I'll just accept it."
The reason was because you were looking at the radio trying to change a station for two seconds in a place where people frequently make sudden stops. That's why genius!
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

Living in NC I have heard "bless your heart" too many times. Loosely translated from christer language to what they actually mean: I am so glad it is you going through this hard time and not me

Were you the person that Dan Cook had a discussion with over the words "bless you"?

I don't care if someone says bless you when I sneeze because the phrase is just a polite bit of nothing people say to each other. The phrase, "May you have a blessed day" seems to have only recently become popular. I am not even certain what it means. How would I know my day is blessed anyway?

It can also be a passive aggressive way to say, fuck you.

I always say "Gesundheit" when somebody sneezes.
