Numismatic Evidence for the Bible
#31
RE: Numismatic Evidence for the Bible
Well, Little Buddy, now that you've gotten everyone riled up, let's get back to the actual topic. You authored this thread to make the contention that, since Herod the Great and Pontius Pilate were real people, and the Bible mentions them, the Bible is therefore factual.

How can you come to that conclusion? Modern authors like Stephen King and Dean Koontz mention real places and real people and real events in their books all the time. That doesn't make the stories in those books "true". How can you believe it is any different for the Bible? If you want to prove (or show evidence to support the contention) that the Bible is true, you will have to begin with proving that god(s) and magic are real.

Do you have any of that? You know... real evidence?

If a 'true' atheist has no interest in anything religious then how do you explain the existence of this site. How do you explain the careers of people like Hitchens, Dawkins etc. etc.

And why do you think atheists hate religion? Have you ever met one? Atheists don't believe in God(s) and that's it. Personally I find religion fascinating and enjoy learning about it and may even think some of it is quite good (not much though), so where you get your archaic and prejudiced views from I don't know.

Perhaps you are just very naive and ignorant :S

The fact that you (as a group) all call God a sky-daddy and the Word of God the Buy-Bull shows you're disain for it.

Disdain does not equal ignorance.

If you have disdain, why the interest?

I really don't think that anybody's actually denied that Herod the Great or Pilate existed. In fact, I believe that much of the New Testament is based, however loosely, on real events of the time. At the very least, it (miracles aside) seems to be more historically plausible than the Old Testament. Of course, anybody can make some shit up and put the names of legitimate historical leaders in their fiction, but only in the case of the Bible does anybody claim that makes the entire thing true.

We can call that non-existant murderer whatever we damn well please, it's not like we will be smote is it?

And the Bible is full of bullshit, hence the name Buy-Bull, a name I don't use personally, it is harder to type than Bible.
