If you want a real challenge, Steel, you should try a community college. It's like you never left high school!
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

I've been attending public university since 2011 and it's much better, specially because you don't pay anything and only the best students are accepted. Yep in the U.S., a state college is a college run by a state government. Tuition costs are generally lesser if you are in-state and greater if you are out-of-state but they are far from free. Most state colleges aren't that selective compared to good private schools (although there a some big exceptions like UC Berkley). Unless you count military academies (and we should as they are good schools) there really aren't any public colleges run by the feds.

Good on ya.
At 36, I changed gears from vet medical practice to mechanical engineering. Going back to compete against under-grads after duking it out with a very select (tougher than med school) bunch of doctoral candidates was cake. Then came 20 years of engineering in private sector industry which I will call intellectual combat with no holds barred. Well, a few are barred. You aren't supposed to hurt or kill your customer. Making your customer happy is a good thing. Not the greatest good. If your customer is too happy, you aren't charging enough. But have some sympathy and help the lesser performers around you, you may be managing them later. Working in a company is usually a team sport. Or, shudder, they may be managing you.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?

Yep. Funded by the state, Tennessee. It's the largest public university in Tennessee. 24,000 students this year. Compared to the. 4,000 at the academy. Incredible.

Congrats MC, we all know you got it, and if you got flaunt it!
![]() ![]() No really, are you so excited?
I'm daunted. I'm so tired after one week of one class and working full time that I don't know how I'm going to do full time. The class was easy, but I am moving like 15 hours a day, which leaves 3 hours for school work and 6 for sleep.
I'm sure it'll just be status quo when it happens and I'll get used to it. My relationship is going to suffer seriously. We have been talking about that a lot.
