In other words, just make up crap until it fits.

No. Even if one buys into that "day=1000 years" nonsense, Genesis only accounts for 6000 of the 13,700,000,000 years. The account is out by over 6 orders of magnitude.
First verse describes the beginning of the universe 13.77 bya. The last creative act of God was Eve (estimated likely between 50-150 tya, but could be up to 200 tya) which completed the "the long but finite 7'th day". Currently in the 8'th day which is non-creative (would possibly account for why atheism is more prominent among microbiologist who don't see ongoing creation verse astronomers who look back in time thus viewing previous 'days'). When this universe has served it's purpose 'will roll-up like scroll burned with fire', God will create again which is called the new creation which will include a new earth (some indication that the new earth size could be 10 trillion times bigger then the current one).
One main purpose of current universe: Angels are created spiritual beings and as such have free will, but no provision for redemption. Human's are similar but have a redemption plan that plays out in this 4 dimensional universe. After every human has responded to their free will redemptive decision either desiring connection or separation from God, this universe will have served it's purpose. God only needs one planet in this universe to accomplish this purpose. Christ appeared to John the Apostle on the Island of Patmos before he wrote the Book of Revelation and He said: "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death". He died once. Therefore, there are no free will aliens anywhere in the universe. Earth is the center of the universe.
Atheist Credo: A universe by chance that also just happened to admit the observer by chance.
