RE: Facebook users?

Are you talking to me, or Clueless Morgan?

I had to vote yes, because I do, but I would honestly delete mine if I wasn't a Girl Scout leader. About 5 of the moms in my troop asked that I set up a special group on FB to help organize events and such, and now it is what tethers me to FB. I will delete it next year, when I retire from scouting/leading for a while.

My husband does not have one, because he is also the paranoid type, and FB is a monstrous invasion of privacy. I'm kind of baffled that you said you would not let your husband delete his. I realize you say it in jest, but it also sounds half serious at least. Isn't it his choice if he wants to protect his privacy? Would you really keep important information from him just to satisfy your personal desire to have him on FB??

I think it's important for both of us to have a facebook because of our lifestyle. We are military so we are far away from family and old friends... plus we will be moving a lot, so that means leaving behind friends that we make all over the country. Obviously, if he really wanted to delete his facebook he'd put his foot down and do it regardless of how I felt about it. I do really feel like it's beneficial for the both of us to keep connected with all the people we are constantly leaving behind. He can make his facebook as private and exclusive as he wants, and he has. :Smile

The thing is, I was roughly the first of everybody I knew(from my generation) to use facebook and I got bored pretty quickly. Something rubbed me the wrong way about it too, besides the boredom. Anyway, it seems useless to me, to this day. It's nothing but a virtual replica of physical social interactions, and an especially bad one at that, given that actually some pretty important things are lost along the way, as I'm sure you know.

As Rene Pinnell put it back in 2011, trying to promote his own mobile app thingy, ironically:

I can't show this to my husband lol. He's super paranoid  about facebook and keeps threatening to get rid of his account. I won't let him, of course.

It was this comment I was referring to about keeping info from him.
I share information with husband, and let him make his own decision.  If I knew he was worried about, say the PW security of his Paypal account, then I found out that Paypal had even more risks than he was aware of, I'd tell him.  Keeping the fact the FB is even worse than he fears from him just seemed....I don't know....controlling?  Untrusting?  Dishonest?  Sorry, I'm not trying to be confrontational.  My husband sometimes does things that make me want to tear my hair out, and I don't think he always akes the best decisions, but it's just my nature to be up front about these kinds of things with him, I guess.

What do you mean by keeping important information from my husband?

I understand the desire to stay connected to family, that is one of the reasons I suppose that FB is popular. Smile
