World government

What do you think? Are we headed that way? Would it solve many of our problems to erase the concepts of different nations and different peoples, and instead have one united global human society?

What are the pros and cons of such a scenario, do you think?

Pro; if it does well everyone does well. Con; if it goes badly it goes badly for everyone.
Seems risky, like putting all your eggs in one basket. Better to have all existing nations so closely allied that they have the peace and order of world government without that risk.
Even if the world government was democratic and genuinely represented the opinion of the global population that wouldn't always be good. Most of the world isn't as accepting of homosexuality/women's rights/Human rights as the west.

Besides most people only say they like unity, they don't actually want it because they feel it takes something away from them personally. Just look at how unpopular strong central government is.

It means humans are often devious shits who once they attain the smallest bit of power abuse it as fully as any despot. See traffic wardens, teachers and tax office clerks.

I'm inclined to agree, you get one Nero wanabee in such a government and we're all fucked.Even if ran by majority rule we're all fucked because majority rule would be theocratic rule.
