I could imagine a percentage dropping their appeals to get that.
Go Big Red! Do they get to wear an ear of corn hat? Little Red work the plunger?

The best way would be to use nitrogen gas, the victim simply falls unconscious and dies, there is no feeling of suffocation because carbon dioxide (the main cause of feeling suffocated) is expelled from the lungs in the usual way. It would be quick cheap and effective, I don't support executions purely because of the fact that you may kill an innocent person, but if it's going to happen N2 seems a good way to do it.

(On the other hand, if the victim had killed a member of my family then they should be ripped to shreds by starving mink!)

No one ever mentions a captive bolt stunner for some reason . . .

Did their victims die a painless death? If he killed your sister, you'd want be the one plunging the knife in!

Let's face it. We're apes. We're vengeful!

Get rid of that Spock avatar and replace it with Khan. You've got some growing to do.

I remember discussing this in a previous thread; among the most humane methods is a nitrogen or helium mask. These seem to be quite quick, painless, and humane.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

Honestly, if you're going to kill somebody, taking them out behind the woodshed and putting a bullet in them is about as quick and humane as it can get. Sure there's a tiny percent chance they'll survive the first bullet, that's why you have a second handy.

Quicker, cheaper, more painless for the poor bastard being killed. It's how I'd want to go.

If we're going to have the death penalty do it in a manner that is instant, humane and cost effective. Bullet or bolt gun to the head works for me.

I don't think I like thought of bullets. What if they miss?

Missing is unlikely at close range if you have somebody who knows what they're doing and the person being shot is restrained.  While I grant that bullets/shooting may sound barbaric, as a hunter and a soldier it is my opinion that this is the most effective way.

My second place suggestion would be explosives.  A small bit of C4 placed at the base of the skull that is then remotely detonated.

Effective, quick, painless.  Though that sounds barbaric even to me.  And would also place more danger on the person performing the act.
