People can feel transcendant experiences for ordinary causes.  Temporal lobe epilepsy can result in highly spiritual experiences.

That doesn't necessarily mean the experiences are invalid.

I don't think that a transcendent experience that has an ordinary cause is therefore not meaningful, even potentially life-changing for the person experiencing it. But I'm not sure what you mean by "invalid", Chad. We can surely agree that it's possible for people who have such experiences to misinterpret the provenance of the experience, no?
