Just like Rambo, isn't it? One man against the whole world. But to be called world class expert one has to Randy's opinion. Others with actual degrees in history or archeology instead of theology can't compete.

Right. Ehrman is an idiot. But he's an atheist idiot, so, you know, whatever... [Image: rolleyes.gif]

Did I say that? Not to my knowledge. You on the other hand are a one trick pony. You look at Ehrman and he's got it all figured out in your mind. Because he happens to confirm what you want to hear. He's an expert on scripture, but he's done no field work and he's neither historian nor archeologist. His claims are one among many.

That's why you can thrown around PHDs as much as you like, but as long as a cllaim doesn't meet scientific standards of peer review and majority consensus, it's just another claim. An interesting opinion, but certainly not a fact.

I've already told you, you don't get to determine the course or rules of the discourse.

Let's see what happens if it becomes necessary for you to think about something.

If the danger of not talking enough about God is that one might enter the realms of atheism, what might be the danger of talking too much about God?

Hint - in Judaism it might lead to something very, very, very naughty ("You shall not make for yourself a sculptured thing . . . .")
The gods did not reveal, from the beginning,
All things to us, but in the course of time
Through seeking we may learn and know things better.

These things are, we conjecture, like the truth.

But as for certain truth, no man has known it,
Nor shall he know it, neither of the gods
Nor yet of all the things of which I speak.
And even if by chance he were to utter
The final truth, he would himself not know it:
For all is but a woven web of guesses.

Judaism has always watched for a coming messiah. Did not Moses state that God would raise up a prophet like him, and those that refused to listen to him would be destroyed?

In Judaism, Moses was the greatest prophet, the only other prophet that was greater than Moses, was Jesus Christ.

Goodness, I thought you Christians thought that Jesus was a God.

Meanwhile, Judaism isn't just not Christianity minus Jesus, it isn't what Christians would like it to be in order to explain Christianity, either.

You mean like the serpent which God commanded Moses to make and place on a pole so that those who were bitten by real snakes could look at it and not die? That was a sculptured thing...

Or like the angels which spread their wings over the Ark of the Covenant which God commanded the people to make. They were sculptured things...

Does God exist, Kaninchen?

Obviously that particular thinking test was a little too hard so I better explain it all a bit more.

The problem with attempting to determine the nature of our God - not your Sistine Chapel God or God with an ornate heart on his chest and his arms around a lamb - is that any human attempt to describe/define God is a form of idolatry.

What might be the consequence of that, Randy?

In Randy's mind (he said it on CAF) he's been shooting fish in a barrel here for weeks.
