And why would I want a job in the fast food industry when I'm in line for my old Government position?

Well, the qualifications for and expectations of the two are nearly indistinguishable, so you have a good point. I'd go for the one with the pension.
As a small business owner, I'll be feeding you and your family for the rest of your natural days.
