It's a third world shithole. I guess I'm not sure what kind of expectations I had about dog euthing there, but doing it in such a manner as to garner world wide protest fits in with the whole third world shithole gestalt.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

[devil's advocate]Well, something has to be done. Anyone who is familiar with dingos knows what happens if you just let stray dogs go feral. I would assume if they're just killing them in the streets like that, it's because they've become a considerable problem.[/devil's advocate]

Interesting. Is the outrage because they are killing them in public and the world can see the pictures and this has hit the media? If they were rounding up the strays and taking then to a center to be euthanized where there is no public access would this be an issue? Is rounding up the strays an affordable option in India?
This is not only a problem in India but in a large part of third world countries. The Russian Winter Olympics had a similar issue. Stray dogs are the number one transmission source for rabies. There are also the problems of pack aggression. The Kerala state indicated that attacks and rabies was the motivating factor for the culling. Would you rather have human lives endangered? The estimated death rate for humans from rabies in India is 20,000/year.
If the stray dog population has become a threat to health or income then it needs to be dealt with. It appears that there are insufficient funds to to spay or neuter the stray dog population. The general Indian population does not seem to be able to keep the stray numbers in check or does not care. If that is the case what other solution do they have?
I don't like seeing these pictures. I don't like the fact that this is their answer to the stray population control. However, if human lives and safety are at stake I can live with it.

[dog lover]That's just disgusting.Just brutal. There are a lot of other means through which the menace caused by those dogs could be put to a stop.Murdering them is not an ethical nor moral option.[/dog lover]
So give us your solution that India and the rest of the third world can afford and that will motivate the general population to implement.
Mega dog lover!
