RE: Jesus Christ
Welcome, can you please post an intro post in the introduction thread first? This topic you propose has been done hundreds of times and even very recently. Not that people won't answer, but typically we like to get to know you first before jumping in to discussions. I will answer your question though.

Yes.

Mate...welcome to the forum first off, but there are probably 167 threads on this exact subject. Do a little digging next time, and maybe try engaging with an existing thread with your thoughts.

Even so, I'm on the fence as to whether there was even a man called Jesus that fits the description, alive at the time. Once you strip away the mythical bullshit, at best you're left with a Jewish upstart that the Romans took umbrage with, and executed him. Over time multiple fabrications and legends have sprung up to create the patchwork quilt of a character we have today.

Hi, welcome Smile

The problem is not so much with the answer as with the question. "Jesus the man" is incredibly vague.

For starters, the name Jesus wasn't around at that time. So the short answer is no.

Were there people who could have inspired the story? Sure. I think it's most likely got elements of several real people among the bullshit. The idea that one single historical figure was totally preserved through decades of hearsay without any other people creeping in at the edges is too ridiculous for me to consider.

Saying Jesus is based on a real figure is not saying much more than Harry Potter being based on a real kid called Harry who liked to pretend he was a wizard. In other words, it's saying barely anything. The biblical Jesus is a fiction.

I've found this to be the most interesting and informative video on the subject.

What rob said. Did some guy exist who ate with lepers and liked to roam around with his fans, get hammered and give socialist speeches with a bit of apocalyptic ravings mixed in? Probably. Sounds like they had a blast.

A virgin born magical wizard who could walk on water and was ressurected? Rather not.

The honest answer is, I don't know. That's also in accordance with scientific facts. Has an itinerant preacher named Jesus existed. Maybe, maybe not. There will never be conclusive evidence for or against that claim.

But even if his existence is proven at some stage, it doesn't prove any of the legends of the mythical Jesus. Just that a person named Jesus existed.

Hi Sondosoft, if you are interested you can check out a poll I made recently asking that very same question:

Welcome to the forums! Smile
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
