Hello!

Hello!
Hi everyone!

Although I already posted on some threads here I thought I should also introduce myself.

I live in Zurich and am currently working on a PhD in Physics/Biology.
Already as a child I disliked going to church, for which my parents are to be "blamed", I guess. Growing up in a rural region of southern Germany, almost anyone surrounding us was christian (mostly catholic). But my parents (although they claim to believe in some sort of "modern" god; I say they are atheists) are definitely people of reason.
When I approached the subject of religion some months ago, I came to the conclusion that I was an atheist all my live but not really admitting it to myself. It was a great feeling of relieve and a lot of things now make much more sense to me than they did before.
After "researching" a bit more on the topics religion, society and especially philosophy I now came to the conclusion that religion is not only bullshit but also a threat to any modern society. I agree with Christopher Hitchens in many points but I am not as pessimistic as he is - why is summarized pretty nice here:
youtube - The Internet: Where religions come to die.

I already enjoyed following the discussions in this forum and look forward to a lot more!

RE: Hello!
Welcome aboard mate!

Nice vid too.

And yes, religion hates the thought that it might be subjected to sceptical scrutiny.

Yes, a PhD is not something hard to get as soon as "you're in". So it is not a big achievement to have some PhD, but the achievement is what you really got done in the meantime.
You learn a lot of course, but there's no "selection" in the final exam (officially there is, but not really)

(At least I think about it like this)

RE: Hello!
Well... well done in advance then Smile I don't think a girl can get a PhD in philosophy... (nor indeed why should she...? Dodgy )... so I'm destined to never join your achievement Smile

So good not even Lady Arctuos can do it! Tiger
