BEASTIALITY
RE: BEASTIALITY
This series of questions does seem to pursue the question: "how do you ensure conventional standards/values without religion?"

In most cases the answer seems to be, don't sweat the small stuff unless there is a victim.

I agree 100% and have said as much multiple times throughout my time here on the forums. I hope my question didn't come across as me saying someone can't have morals unless they are Christian or something.  Shy

But, you are grounded in your faith, so your faith drives you. In your opening post, you commented that you wanted to hear from people here who are not motivated by religious beliefs. So, my comment was more in response to that part of the OP.

The truth is that we make our own choices, and religious people tend to credit a god with those good choices. All along though, those religious people were making their own choices to do good or to not do good, which is exactly how atheists live their lives, too. We are not arrogant about it, it just is an everyday life ...thing. If I have good credit, I don't skip down the street thanking a god. lol I did it. No one else.

But, religious people will praise a god for what they themselves are accomplishing.

They sure do in my family.  "God was good, everyone got home safely."

Do they think they can train god by praise?  Of course you know what they say when He isn't so 'good':

God called him home to be with Him.

God works in strange and wonderful ways.

God tests us but He never gives us more than we can handle.

These really are all pretty lame.

Yes, I wanted to hear people's views who are not religious, but that doesn't equate to me thinking they can't have morals.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

No, I don't think you mean it like that...I think you are motivated by your religion to do good things. That's why you said it. And I'm here to suggest to you, you don't need religion to do anything good in this life.  Catholicism has been selling that lie for a very long time, though.

Guess he had his hands full on 9/11 and just couldn't get around to saving all those innocent lives. Oh wait...that occurrence had to do with evil men's free will ...

Rolleyes

Is God a baby and he needs to be pacified? lol

Really? Why do you post questions here asking people how they feel  about fucking family members and dogs, then?

A see what you're saying.

Well to clarify, it's not that my faith is the reason why I do good things, it's that my faith can sometimes help explain why certain things are objectively immoral.

Because I want to hear people's views who are not religious. That's why I came to an atheist forum.
