Get to know your staff! - EvidenceVsFaith

Exactly. Pursuit of happiness is doomed to failure because the pursuing doesn't make you feel happy.

So either pursue feeling better and keep pursuing, and pursue success.

Or just accept happiness isn't something that you can really 'get'. You can get happy but you can't get happiness itself.

And exactly right too - the act of wanting means that you aren't satisfied. And I'd rather continue wanting and not be satisfied than be satisfied but stop striving and perhaps end up with less of an overall thrilling time.

I think satisfaction is overrated. I'd prefer exhilaration any day Tongue

Actually, the pursuit of happiness can make one happy... lots of things can make a person happy Smile

I do both... why couldn't it be both?

To some extent true... but then I know what makes me happy, and I can directly influence "receiving?" it. Ie: compliments make me happy... and I can easily fish for them Smile

If you want happiness then that implies you lack it, and if you want it, crave it, then it reminds yourself of the fact you don't have it and 1. Doesn't make you have it 2. Does remind yourself that you aren't happy and can intensify that unhappiness. Why would you want it if you already have it? The fact you desire it implies you don't have it and it doesn't do any good merely yearning for it.

And yes, you CAN pursue both happiness and success but if you're already satisfied then you might be less bothered. I don't want to be satisfied I want to push myself further. If I am satisfied then there would be no point in doing that.

Satisfaction is short-lived for me because it quickly turns to boredom. If I'm satisfied I don't want more and I find that very boring. Not being satisfied is much more interesting. In that sense I'd rather not be happy with things because it's more interesting to me Tongue

Happiness is easily attainable in some respects, and it's an ongoing persuit. Just because you attain happiness in one moment, doesn't mean you have it for the next. It's an unending job. It's capitalist bullshit to always be dissatisfied with your lot in some respects too. There are some great grounded people who can accept what they have in life and be content/ happy with that. That's no bad thing, just unfashionable in this society led by greed.

Then again for many people simple attainment is denied to them. Again it can be a measure of a person's resolve that they learn to accept where they are.

Well I mean I don't want to be ever fully 'satisfied' because I want to keep striving. I like satisfaction and do get bits of course - but I don't aim for it as an end in itself. I treat it as a by-product in my pursuit of other things as I strive.
