EVERYONE surviving that crash would have been god performing a miracle.

The boy surviving is just random statistics, nothing else.

You're right, KichigaiNeko. We should just spend his whole life telling him how fucked up he and his life should be after seeing and experiencing what he lived through. We should spend his life telling him how suicidal and depressed he should be, and further, we should expect him to be that way instead of hoping that he wont be.

Yup. Makes perfect sense.

I'm glad that the boy survived, and I have no desire to pin it on God or declare it some sort of miracle. It is just miraculous at the very least, and it's amazing that he survived. And now, like Paul said and because I don't want to be up on my soap box, I will walk away from this.

Actually, if it were to be a true "miracle" I would expect that the plane would violate all laws of physics by suddenly halting in midair, just inches above the ground. Then it would hang there while all the passengers and crew disembarked. Once the last person was off the plane and a safe distance away, the plane would then continue on its path and crash into the ground. Now THAT would ba an actual "miracle" that I couldn't argue with!

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?

This one might say there is a difference between living and being alive...

I agree that he is alive... I do not presume to think he lives after such an ordeal. That is not to suggest he is no longer lives... however likely the lack of life may seem to me. Sleepy

And sometimes "being alive" is not a good thing. I can think of many scenarios where death would be preferable.

^

Or at least, would be preferable in my reckoning.

And now an orphan, with NO family and scant real support.

YAY lucky him, praise be to the god of "Fucking your life up completely" (really Watson!) ....bet ya he's dead (by suicide) by 20?

I might take that on, actually. I counter you: before 18 Sol IV years.

Did anyone say you did? Huh

Quote:What the fuck guys? Seriously? You can't even have a little ounce of hope that, despite this horrible tragedy, this kid will go on to live a happy life? You can't even bother to try and imagine this kid going on to make the best of his life? Honestly, KichigaiNeko, if he's surrounded by a bunch of people like you, yeah, I bet he will commit suicide by age 20.

1: Seriously: I have no capacity to hope for a thing I care naught for. How would it be possible to hope for something you don't care about? Further: I don't presume to believe he has no 'chance'... only that it seems far more likely that his life will be fairly 'negatively' impacted by the event... perhaps suicidally so.

2: Happiness can come in many forms, from many different sources. Some people might have been made happy by the event... I do not presume this small male human is not among this group. I myself would be positively glowing inside if certain individuals of my family were to die in such a manner... though I would of course prefer to avoid actually being the sole survivor of the crash... Sleepy

3: We could try to imagine a lot of things. I once imagined I could just will my body to morph from this state into a form I might recognize as me... I'm sorry, did I say once? I meant about 15 times a day. Thing is: trying to imagine a thing's occurrence doesn't change the facts. We have some apparent facts... and the likely outcome is that he will be seriously negatively affected by the event. Do you see any particular reason to assume this will not be so? I hardly see reason to condemn him to the belief that he will have a negative life, nor any reason to conclude that it is his fate and force it upon him... however: I do not see where your strange pseudo-optimism is from. Perhaps there is a reason?

4: What exactly is this "the best" he can make out of his life?

5: I rather believe KichigaiNeko would perhaps be one of the 'better' individuals for him to be around... Sleepy

6: I posit that it will likely be before 18. If he has no sense of purpose or direction to his life by then... he won't likely last much past it.

Honestly... even if everyone survived the crash: would it [i[really[/i] be so miraculous?

I don't recall anybody suggesting this before you... try not to stick a girl's mouth full of things she never said.

To you? I doubt it.

Pray tell me how it is miraculous in any sense of the term?

I find it fairly pathetic to 'walk away' after insulting somebody... would you care to leave your date the bill as well? Sleepy

I guess that is the REAL difference between you and me Watson...I won't just hope (that some big Daddy in the sky comes to my rescue) The boy gets my sympathy that he is still alive and I have no illusions as to the therapy and medical treatments he is going to have to go through so that anyone who is his carer is going to go to the media and push this miracle kids for all the $$$ they can get and the kid will still have nothing at the end of it but scars...see this sort of 'christian' behaviour too often for it not to be considered the norm.

It was no miracle...certainly amazing and thank you for your thoughts on this matter.

Don't let me detain you.

CHRISTIAN: That's because they're in heaven!
CHILD: Why can't they be here with me?

CHILD: Why would God take away my mommy and daddy? Now I have no family and a lady from the government keeps moving me from one place to another.
CHRISTIAN: I don't know why God does what he does. But I do know that God loves you!
Note: during this entire conversation the Christian has a stupid grin the entire time.

I love the caption on that comic. "A miracle is like a taco, except for the fact that the taco exists."
