Can Interestingness be Forced or is it Natural?

Can Interestingness be Forced or is it Natural?
Forums seem to have gotten quite quiet and uninteresting so far today IMO so I'm thinking of starting a few threads to try and liven things up!

(Luckily AF.org is almost always fascinating and fun xD)

The question is though, can any of us really intentionally try and make the forums really fascinating today by creating some interesting threads?

... or can intrigue not be manufactured artificially and it has to be a spontaneous thing?

In short this is a thread for us to all try and make things fun, interesting, exciting and genuinely non-mundane.

Can we really make that happen or is it not something we can seek directly?

If it can't be done directly in this thread, there are other threads elsewhere to be made today anyhow Wink

Let us have some phunnerz.

(I am so clearly lacking in creativity that when I can't think of a thread to make to make things interesting I choose the topic itself to be about my attempt to make things more interesting).

Interest in your polls is neither natural nor can it be forced.

I figure what's interesting to one person is sometimes painfully boring to another. And I hate tryhards. You know, folks who try way too hard to be something they're not. That said, this thread is very interesting to me, and in spite of what I just said, I do think it takes a bit of effort to make the world interesting...to see where one fits in.

@ Chuck

Do you suspect that one of the definitions of those words are an equivocation on the matter of the definitional senses I wished both of them to be used?

Or are you basically saying that I'm uninteresting no matter what Big Grin

In which case turtle cries tears that flood his shell to overflowing excess-makingness :'(

@ c172: I agree, fake people are annoying when they can't relax and be themselves and just want to impress and be interesting all the time etc.

I'm a very natural and expressive person... so much so I'm not going to deny the part of myself that is an insecure a try hard nor am I going to ignore the larger part of myself that is natural and spontaneous and dislikes fakery either xD

Did you put a spell on me ages ago already? Or are you just so awesome you never needed to? xD

Oh, I am sure you are a very interesting person inspite of your polls.

Interestingness isn't necessarily consonant with importitude, though. For example, economics are very important, but soul-crushingly dull.

This leads me to think that whether or not something is interesting must be innate (natural). There are a handful of people to whom the study of economics is interesting (these people are, of course, wrong), but they have a helluva time getting anyone else to share their delusion. You seem to have to be born we a genetic defect that leads to find economics interesting.

There are rare cases where an interest can admittedly be forced. 'Solve this Rubik's Cube in less than 30 seconds, or kiss your kidneys goodbye' fairly leaps to mind. But this is an immediate, transient interest, and will evaporate as soon as the threat is passed. It cannot fairly be said to have the overarching quality of 'interestingness.'
