Can't turn off thinking when you have a brain. Can't even turn off your own awareness when you're already so aware. Once you gain awareness it's as hard losing it (and why would you want to?) as it is getting it if you don't have it. Or harder... don't know if a regression is even possible.

Quote:Disassociate with them. You don't own, and are not responsible for, the thoughts that pass through your head. Let them float by like clouds. Your sitting, and your brain says "Chocolate ice cream". Let it go. Don't start thinking 'why did I think that', or 'what meaning does that have'.

I am just habitually aware now, of the thoughts I have. Can't help that and I don't want to. And if they're obsessive sometimes I can't help if that sometimes annoys me.

Quote:You and your thoughts are separate.
Not really. They aren't 'me', but they're part of me as is the rest of 'me'. I am the sum of my parts.

Quote:In the oil spill thread, you were the only one that made a blanket statement about human nature. You said it was an example of faults we share. It isn't. You are not responsible for the spill, nor do you carry around some flaw that it references.
Well it depends how vague you want to be. I mean, I share the flaws of human ignorance and stupidity as does everyone to SOME extent. I also share to whatever extent the attributes of not giving a shit. I share attributes of the good parts of human nature and also the bad parts, I'm only human. It's just a matter of degree.

Quote:Humans can be described as flawed, philosophically, but it is not very pragmatic to think like that.
Actually I'm just trying to be realistic here. I'm not gonna pretend I'm perfect and I'm not going to pretend my thoughts aren't part of me.

Quote: Instead consider how miraculous and intelligent you are.
I am certainly not 'miraculous'. And I wouldn't say I was that intelligent either. Some I think I can tell I am perhaps more intelligent than, but there's a fuckload of people who are so much smarter and better educated than me.

Quote: Think positive thoughts.
I don't understand positive thinking. How does it work if you are unconvinced by it? If I think really nasty thoughts but don't believe them, they are not threat. And in the same way, if I think so-called 'positive thoughts' but are unconvinced, they do no good. This is the thing about these obsessive thoughts - I don't believe them anyway so they are just annoyingly meaningless repetitive thoughts. They get meaningless because I am so aware of them I am not convinced by them without thinking and when I think I am unconvinced. And I have them because I am aware of them all the time. So I am aware because I have them and I have them because I am aware.
