Loving God More Than Your Family & Spouse

Quote:Of course there is, you just explained it, Nirvana. Nirvana is the carrot for which you live your life as a buddhist, as heaven is the carrot for which christians live theirs. You're both told that the way to get this carrot is to cease clinging to this world. It's not that difficult to understand........even if it -is- difficult to understand why either of you bought into it. "Heaven" is, effectively, the christian term for "Nirvana". The wife, in this example, is just another attachment preventing a person from achieving nirvana. Help clear that up for you, or are you committed to "not understanding" those silly beliefs which you share with other silly believers?
I have more groundbreaking news for you, both faiths make those same promises about the "next life"....because they are incapable of delivering in this one.
Yes sir. Your spouse is an attachment preventing one from shortening sansara (rebirths). Just like any other which we crave from our sensors. Both faiths doesn't make the same promises as far as I know. There is no next life for a Christian. Although they believe in reincarnation of people becoming spirits, ghost or demons.

No next life for a christian....? Their next life is not only the purpose of their current life, but the purpose for all of existence. You're a lost cause. Are you actually trying to understand, or are you more interested in being the kettle that calls out the pot?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Yes however if your a non believer of God you go to hell. Christians are clearly asked to obey their creator.

I can do this all day.

I may be a lost cause sir but to them the only next life I see is heaven or hell. Or spirits

..........and? The only next life they see from your tradition is more of the same. You both prefer your own favorite flavor of koolaid to the other guys. No surprise there. Our personal preferences for next lives (whatever they may be) are not, however, what we've been discussing. You asked how they could feel this way, you should know how, shouldn't you?

Yes sir. I get your point. However going to hell because you don't believe in God and extending one's sansara due to not living a good life are very different.
You can believe in God and not live a good life, ask for forgiveness and find paradise.

Of course if your comparing my intangible belief of Karma.

A much better example of a difference, but nothing to do with the question in your op. You think that they shouldn't be able to do that, I take it, but you couldn't explain why or how this is a function of the cosmos any more than they can...and so again it turns into a discussion of preferences. You want bad people to get theirs, so do christians. You don't want there to be a loophole, christians do (but, ofc, they don't see it as a loophole).

You mean your imaginary karma?

Sir God and karma yes both of them are intangible "imaginary" as you call it. Though very different entities. I'm saying karma is a belief that makes people don't do bad. Before you do something in the back of your head it says "this will bite me back". On the back of a Christians head " God will forgive" . Which way will make people prevent doing bad deeds more ?
Rhythm, You sir have exceptional debating skills which I admire

As -you- call it, not me. Imaginary friends, imaginary karma.....meh. Belief in heaven and hell are also beliefs that "make people don't do bad". What both beliefs share, in addition to this, is ineffectiveness. Neither belief actually seems to stop people from "doing bad", however either tradition deigns to define bad. Yet again you've been sold a product which will never be delivered, just like afterlives and next lives, sansara and hell, nirvana and heaven.
