Anyone like Manhattan Transfer?

RE: Anyone like Manhattan Transfer?
1. I like Manhattan Transfer.

2. Vernon Reid is not better than Jimi Hendrix, but you're perfectly entitled to that opinion. In fact, there are a helluva lot of guitar plays much more technically proficient than Reid - BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Thorogood and Clapton fairly leap to mind. On the other hand, if you meant to say that you prefer Reid to Hendrix, I get it. I prefer BB King to Hendrix, but Jimi Hendrix was clearly the better musician.

I am not taking away from Hendrix at all. I am saying Reid if all things were equal and things panned out differently at the QM level, Reid should have been on top as well, but with every aspect of life, competition does not allow every talented person to get as high. I think both are top notch but times and circumstances lead to different outcomes.

I think if you put both at the same starting point, at the same time Reid under similar circumstances would have done the same or better. I think he'd blow away Hetfield too.

Just putting on a best of Jimi on Youtube now.  That guy was such a master in so many KINDS of music.  He could play jazz right up there with the rest of them, and then there's his unique instrumentals as well.

I don't think an ABBA fan understands the words "kicks ass."

I mean, the girls are cute enough. . . but there is no ass kicking of any kind going on. Knob licking, maybe. Scrotum tickling, sure. Carpet munching, most definitely. But ass kicking? Come on, dude, get real. Tongue

I am a Metallica fan and Pat Benatar fan too. I doubt they could do what ABBA did. Don't confuse like of music or dislike with talent.

I'm not saying they're untalented. Why would I?

But "kick ass" I reserve for music of high energy and volume. Big Grin

Was Hetfield an unusually technically proficient speed/thrash guitarist compared to others of his generation? I never thought that that was why they became so big.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

I don't know Reid's circumstances, but he's been active for what, 30 years or so? Hendrix was in the spotlight for less than 5 years, had a grand total of 3 albums, then snuffed it at 27...how much more favourable to Reid could the 'circumstances' be?

I love yer, Brian, but come on - Hendrix was the best rock guitarist who ever lived, bar none, and has had far more influence on several genres of music than Reid could dream of. You're a good man, but you're wrong on this one.

Again, not taking away from Hendrix at all. Just like any other industry, like a CEO or actor or sports star, there are far more many who have the talent who for circumstances don't get that big. Living Color and Veron Reid are talented. Competition to the top is tough, Hendrix had the talent, but he also caught the right people at the right time.
