Fuck Cox Cable
January 3, 2016 at 10:18 pm
Never mind that I pay what I consider a steep price for the questionable value of having cable (did it for my wife). Never mind that I have more channels than I ever wanted, most of it shit. And never mind that I seldom get to have control of what I watch since my wife is a TV Nazi (yes, I have seen more reality television than anyone not on death row should ever have to endure). Fine. Fuck it. I'll roll with it all so long as I can occasionally see something that matters to me.
Like tonight's Vikings-Packers game for the division championship.
But no! Instead of the game on its appointed channel, I have some looped bullshit from Cox, explaining that they are no longer carrying that channel to "help" their consumers by keeping down costs. I'm livid right now.
Is it wrong of me to wish that an overweight TV repairman would face fuck the bitch in this looped Apologia? Does anyone know an overweight TV repairman who'd like to make a few bucks?

Unfortunately, this shit happens with every provider, and they (the broadcast group that carries your local NBC, not the cable provider) specifically pull their channel to coincide with football games because they know that is when people get the most angry and will call their cable provider and pressure them.
Some cable providers just make sure a deal gets done and no outage happens. Which they send right along to your bill.

Notice how the ditch channels to keep down costs, but those savings never seem to get passed along.
Bunny ears. The game is on broadcast TV for free, at least here.

The company is called White Knight, and they pulled the local NBC affiliate.
Since Cox has the stranglehold on cable for the most part in your area, they know they can try to squeeze more money out of them. They are asking for 3 times the price that Cox currently pays for that affiliate.
This is what happens when there is no competition.

Also, if you know someone else who has a cable sub and will give you their login, you can stream it on NBCsports.com

Back when I was doing many TV installs, my work divvied out about 50% DirecTV, 30% DISH, and the rest split amongst several cable providers.
Seems like about once a year I would get in a screaming match with DirecTV, once a month with DISH, and for reasons that are still mysterious, never once with a cable provider.
I think a part of the cable mystery was around here, if you have cable, you also have the 'bundle' and are saving some bucks and are willing to put up with some crap. Also, in the smaller communities, there are lower expectations, LOL, for their local cable provider.
My biggest recurring shit hemorrhage With DISH was not being able to get the local hub to put the equipment on the installers truck that was called for on the work order. I'd spend some time with the client, assess what equipment they needed, then we would call the DISH home office, negotiate the best deal for programming and equipment, and then the SOB at the local DISH office would not put something on the truck we needed that was called for on the work order, and then it turned into a pissing contest. Oh, I always eventually won, but it might take 1 to 1 1/2 hours on the phone, screaming and carrying on, to get there.
Biggest pisser these days is DirecTV REALLY REALLY wanting every TV in their system to have it's own individual receiver, no mirroring anymore. Most cable providers are there already, requiring some kind of converter box for every TV, once they discontinue all analog channels.
DISH, bless their crappy little hearts, are still supporting multiple TV's per most of their receivers.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I have Cox as well, and it always seems to mute the local NBC affiliate, and often NBCSN. It seemed kind of personal, but CNBC is always OK, and I think MSNBC, too.

Dish is terrible. Well, they're all terrible.
But DirecTV has the best Whole home DVR of them all, the most HD channels, and the best customer service.
I'll always be a DirecTV customer, if I ever go back to cable. Right now, I stream everything and am very content with the lack of bill.
I do share passwords with my parents/brother. They use my Netflix/Amazon, I use their password for ESPN/ABC, NBC Sports, and NFL Network.
So I need someone in my life to have a cable sub. But I think it won't be long until ESPN will throw a standalone out there, and then all the sports providers will do the same. If the NFL does it, I'm in, every year.

Cable is lame when you can watch everything for free online. Therefore, just pay for the internet package.

If it weren't for live sports, I'd be right there with ya.
In fact, I am right there with ya, despite my inexorable need for live sports.
